To give you a little background on “Ana’s Song,” I started writing it when I was a senior in high school. I’ve been writing stories since I was a kid, and most of them have long since been scrapped. But this story stuck with me, even though it’s on something like it’s 10th iteration and looks nothing like it did when I sent the first few pages in with my college writing department application. I just loved the idea of a song in a bottle (that was actually the story’s original title), and of magic that would carry a message in a bottle back and forth between two people on opposite sides of the sea. I also adore the pen pal and secret identity romance tropes.
